Weekend In Skegness

#1 by astoness , Tue Jul 21, 2015 6:31 pm

lovely place to visit...nice and clean and tidy as well..had a smashing weekend..great car boot...went into skegness the sand is the most golden sands ive ever seen...ride up and down the prom in horse and carriage ..popped to mabelthorpe...but the most oddest thing was just before we arrived at camp site i spotted a signpost for HARRINGTON a couple of miles away so that being my last name it had to be investigated[Little LOL] turns out HARRINGTON village was named after john de harrington born 1281 ish...of course there is no way he is anything to do with my harringtons although having said that my 4x gt grandfather b abt 1781 was john harrington...anyhow it turns out that harrington village fete was to be held on sunday at harrington hall so i thought i would just pop along to claim my pile john de harrington is buried inside st marys church which is part of the harrington estate...he did not live at the hall as that was built in 1681 he lived about half a mile away and the ower of the hall told me the foundations of his house are still vivisble..didnt have time to hunt that down though..anyhow enough of the history lesson just a few photos that were taken for fun and i live in hope[Little LOL]

Great stuff Lyn, how surprising HARRINGTON being a neighbourhood watch area.
