This is an odd story. I watched the first reports and the photo taken by the police showed the seal in a litter strewn patch of muddy ground. Shortly afterwards he is on nice green grass. The video report showed the seal being herded by a dozen inept thugs using brooms, iron fences and wooden boards to get him onto a green tarpaulin. Then the report claims he was finally lured into the back of a van by some Mackerel.
The RSPCA said the seal had a head wound and some discharge. My guess is he got that while he was being harrassed. Now the RSPCA decide that taking him on a 200 mile ride is a good idea and wonder why he isn't eating.
Some "rescue" this turned out to be. I think a good idea would have been to give him food where they found him, gain his trust and then take him straight back to the sea. No need for the police to be involved at all. It's a wonder they didn't taser him.
