Are these Long Historical trials worth it, for the accused and the accusers safe and the cost.
Of course if someone does something bad they must be brought to book, but after so many years its crazy.

DLT is innocent. He has a court ruling to prove it.
So what of the accusers? What's their penalty?
Are the police just here for ancient unsupported claims or will they eventually get around to solving current crimes?

DLT says he has had to sell his house to pay his costs.
He used to be a farmer and he may have more than one house but they are his and causing someone the great expense of defending a court action when there isn't sufficient evidence for a conviction is grossly unfair.
This is something the CPS is suppose to prevent by vetting cases before they are allowed into court.
Lawyers and barristers are the only real winners.
If you read Private Eye you will see that only real criminals get legal aid.

Certainly in this case The Law is an Ass. I wonder how much of this is down to the "VICTIMS" hoping to get compensation.

The legal profession on the whole, certainly their senior members, care little for the public they are supposedly there to support. They care only for their own profit and benefit, not that of their customers. As an example, after my mother's recent death I attempted to contact the solicitor to obtain my mother's will to confirm her wishes as to burial. Telephoning their number I was informed that it was no longer the solicitor's office but a private residence . I then determined that in 2010 the then owner had been made bankrupt and the solicitor's intervention authority had closed them down and seized their papers. No-one had apparently made any effort to contact the owners of the relevant stored documents. I filled in the required form for a search and a week later received a letter confirming that they had the solicitors documents and saying that a member of the team had been assigned to the case, but they had a considerable amount of work in hand and they would contact me when he was available to do a search . Pigs at the trough and to hell with their clients. I am awaiting a reply (next year?) . Then, if they say they cannot find it, I will request my own will (of which I have a copy , but not the original, and which is anyway not now valid as the only people mentioned are now dead), just to see whether they can find it .

I didn't mean helping with the will, I meant getting my name in it.

They say "where there's a will there's a way", but that way does not lead to a will 1
