I really don't see what anyone can do about the water.
If the water is above ground level and above river level then surely it wouldn't drain away down the rivers no matter how deep they were?

So little work has been done on rivers and drainage ditches, of course there would still be flooding but the scale of this lot could have been reduced. At least when the weather front changes the surface water can start to drop. Lasting so long the ground is so saturated now there will be major pools for ages.

I agree that there certainly would have been flooding, but if the rivers had been dredged properly then there would have been a bigger channel for the water to drain way in. Its a bit like, a bath where you have hair stuck in the plughole. the water drains away slowly, whereas if you dig out the hair it drains away quickly. The drainage authority were just could not be bothered to clear out their old hair from the plughole

I agree, but we could also help the drainage situation by not putting Tarmac and concrete drives everywhere. I feel for anyone who has been affected.

Our Government is very good about giving our wealth away overseas (£11 billion per year at present in foreign aid). This money belongs to the population of this country, it's not there for MPs to look good on the foreign circuit. They certainly havn't got my permission go give away my bit. I want it spent here.

The government also hasn't got my permission to give away my money in dubious contracts to their friends and supporters.

Here here ,I always thought charity begins at home .Not thousands of miles away ,when your own are suffering.
