You know, I'm not `100% sure
I always thought I had taken these in the late 70's, but I think the SuperPrix was in the early 80's. I'm wondering if they had a "tryout" in the 70's, because as I remember it this one wasn't actually a race as it was controlled by police outriders

The Lucas on the Streets Motor Sport Spectacular in 1980 which was to try and get interest going in the SuperPrix

As far as I know a guy called Martin Hone an ex racing driver was one of the main instigators in The Birmingham Super Prix. He was the owner of The Opposite
Lock Club in Gas Street.

Mr Hone interviewed me for a bar Managers job sometime in the 1970s which I was offered but I turned down. I'll never know if I did the right thing. SB

Sunday, August 24, 1986 would see the first Birmingham Superprix, a Formula 3000 street race along 2.4 miles of city centre roads. But just four years later it ended in controversy.
Shard End boy
Sheldonboy, you probably did the right thing! I was Customs Officer back at that time, and was on a raid on The Opposite Lock who were being investigated at the time for tax fraud ;-)
Martin Hone was indeed the driving force behind the SuperPrix. He had a brother also who was heavily involved in the accounts side, but I believe unfortunately he died many years ago, suicide I believe.

I think whatever decisions we take, if we are around to question them many years later then we made the correct choice.

You sort of prove my point Mitz.
The grass may be greener on the other side of the street but had you crossed over you may have been run down by a very large truck and not be here to have any thoughts on the matter.
