I heard on the telly, if rhino poaching carries on at it's present rate they will be extinct by the end of this decade.

Trouble is Jo Rhino Horn is very valuable for Chinese medicines. The more rare it gets the more valuable it will get etc.

I did hear this weekend the wildlife people are thinking can they micro chip the rhino's horn ,then it might be possible to trace it and bring the hunters to court with more evidence. But i don't think it will make a lot of difference, large amounts of money are involved.as you said earlier

Also any microchip would only work with whole horns. when it is ground up to satisfy 80 year old Chinese men's vanity ( think it is claimed to have aphrodisiac properties) the micro chip would be ground up also. A better solution would be with one of these artificial DNA products, which possibly could be applied to the horns, and could be made to identify the animal it came from. there might be trouble in getting it impregnated into the horn though.

My way of thinking, is hunt the hunters and shoot on sight, problem solved.

Totally agree JO, I would imagine though the area the poachers is immense.

I always rather liked the idea the Americans once had of spraying drug plantations with harmful substances, so that when the drug was used the user would have prblems. this would soon wipe out drug use and would probably do the same for rhino horn use. Of coursed soem will say it's not right, but methylated spirits is adulterated with methanol and other substances, (and industrial methanol does not have any colouring, so it cannot be said that that is different as you can see its not normal booze)
