Hockley, Spring Hill & Brookfields

My first job was at Rabones in Whitmore Street Hockley, left school end of term July, 1941 on Friday I think it was and by Monday, still Thirteen and still in short trousers, my job, standing on a soapbox cause I was too short to reach the Vyse, was to file the brass ends of the wooden rulers and also the folding part of the inside.
Is that great long factory still there, stretching from Ford Street around into Whitmore Street? I know that Rabones (Chesterton)are now on Spring Hill where the Old Cinema called the Palace theatre once stood
Brookieboy

Brookie I wouldn't be surprised if Phil has a picture of your old Rabone factory. SB

I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

Norman

I do have a photo of Hockley BCT depot somewhere but I'll have to look it out for you. In the meantime here is a photo of a number 8 bus turning out of Whitmore St into Heaton St my compliments to Mr John Bird owner of the photo. The other one of Whitmore St is what I collected on my travels. Lyn beat me to it with another one,

Gee Tks. Lyn and mikegee for those lovely photos, like everything else the area has changed a lot and my memory has faded but I see the Tram/Bus depot at the bottom of Ford street. Tks again Norman
