My dad grew a load of cabbages when I was little. When we came back from Margate there were millions of caterpillars.

That was a problem when dad was working he could not get to it in the week ,asked me and a mate to go and spray with soapy water to stop them he gave me extra pocket money if I did.

Poor slugs, we don't get many slugs these days. The hedgehogs and Frogs love em. glad I'm not a hedgehog or a frog.

On a serious note…. if you put down slug pellets you will encourage slugs.
Here's my version of how.

Slug pellets are often called slug bait, they attract slugs.
The slugs come from all around to eat the pellets.
The slugs are poisoned and start a long demise.
A frog comes along and eats a slug.
The frog is poisoned and starts a long painful demise.
That frog would have gone on to eat all of your slugs if you hadn't killed him.
There are many more slugs than frogs, so the slugs that don't eat the poison are now free from predators.

The same applies to hedgepigs if you are lucky enough to still get them in your garden.
There are frogs and toads in most poison free gardens, they are elusive enough not to be seen.
