Perhaps nail guns weren't invented yet.
They are way too dangerous for domestic use anyway. Loads of yanks have been found to have nails in their heads, probably as a result of (mis?)using a nail gun.

It explains an awful lot.

[Little LOL] jo...we lost one of our gang once...thought he must have gone home..found out he has crossed the boundery tried to jump a big crater on the bomb peck in the fog...miss judged it and broke his leg...
