Birmingham Best Avoided This Saturday

#1 by Sheldonboy , Tue Jul 16, 2013 6:49 am

Centenary Square-Chamberlain Square and the surrounding areas are to be best avoided on saturday.
Massive protests are planned.

Well I don't think after 20 odd years that I am going to choose this Saturday to visit the City, anyway I have other plans.

What I want to know is, have not the powers that be the authority to make one or the other of these protest groups wait until the following week to make their protest. As far as the ones who wait then it would have to be the group that made the latter application.

I got the impression that they don't have to make an application for a static protest, they just publicise the intention.
The report says that neither the police or the council have the power to stop it.
Also neither will have any interest in stepping in at the first sign of trouble, the police will just hide again.

It goes both ways phil they would have to police it on two days, the chances are the opposition would turn up anyway. Any of these groups are entitled to march but at least the police are warned. This is the most expensivly policed demo of its kind.

The Mails report on the day. http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/loc...ge-more-5170773

I like the way that business as normal in Broad Street is mostly Hen and Stag parties.
I can't imagine anything worse, I hope tourists are not encouraged to use Broad Street on Saturday nights.

Wasn't you ever young, I would have loved Birmingham to be the way it is now when I was young enough to enjoy it. In fact if it wasn't for being classed as a dirty old man I would be using it now.

If there is one thing that I am jealous of the young today for, then I will admit that it is the capability they have for having a good time. When I see film clips of them enjoying themselves at places along Broad Street and the like I will admit to pangs of jealousy when I think back to the places we had to endure in search of a good time. Then what did I do when things started to get better I got married and as my wife wasn't a drinker that more or less put paid to my night club days.

When you get film crews following these kids to show what they get up to, I always think this. They do nothing that our crew didn't get up to except perhaps look for fights, but that's not saying we didn't get involved in the odd fracas. Then there is the point if we saw a film crew following us is would have been a stone blind certainty that we would do something outrageous.
