A 16 year old girl has been stabbed to death on her way to school in Edgbaston this morning. I am glad I'm not a child now with a crap world like this to grow up in.
I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

I see they have arrested a 22 year old young man in connection with the stabbing.
I feel so angry and sad about this senseless loss. This time yesterday her mom was getting her ready for school, she wouldn't. Have been thinking it was for the last time. All because of a knife carrying mongerel who isn't fit to be on this planet.

At one time sectioned meant hung, drawn & quartered. Now it means treated with kid gloves.
And probably let out again after a year or so if they smile nicely at the doctor

This bloke is mentally ill but he did make a hasty exit so he must have been aware what he did was wrong. On the other hand I have read he was travelling round on buses before he got picked up so easily found.
I think a lot of people need the security for both them and the public of proper psychiatric hospital care. Not this non care in the community.
Whats the betting that he is an out patient somewhere and that the likelihood of him doing something like this was well known and nothing was done about it?
You are so right in your last sentence Denise. My ex wife unfortunately was mentally ill and spent the last 3 years of her life in a locked ward (more for her own protection than others, as she would otherwise walk out and be a danger to herself and very scary to others). However the local north leeds health authority no longer have (or at least did not at that time) any long term units for this sort of patient, and so she had to be housed (probably at enormous expense ) at a private unit near Huddersfield. They were very good to her there and i cannot but praise the treatment she received there, but it is surely wrong that in an area the size of that health authority (at a guess, and it is a guess 2-300,000 people) it is assumed there is no requirement for long term secure care other than that necessary after criminal acts have occurred. Susan was lucky in that she was provided with that care, but I am sure there are a lot out there who did not have the support to push the local authority into providing it. They drift around, getting worse and worse, often ending up performing acts which would never have occurred if the proper facilities were provided for them .

Mike that is a brilliant post and one i totally agree with..I am so pleased that Susan had the care and attention that she required during her mental health illness...an illlness that can strike any one of us or any member of our family at any time and depending on the severity a most difficult and heart rendering situation to watch a family member go through..i also speak from experience...

I have had some dealings through work to see a large Psychiatric hospital at first hand. The outside of the building was spooky and the grounds beautiful
Long corridors but once on the wards they were cosy and homely.Long term patients had good attention and time filling activities.
I once had the pleasure of feeding an elderly lady who spent all mealtime trying to kick the legs from under you lol
I can not imagine how some of those residents could cope in the community but that hospital is now closed.Their well ordered caring world all gone.
I can honestly say if I was mentally ill I think I would have felt secure there.Lots of great staff who did their best to care for these people.
