The Ring O' Bells, Yardley

What a sad sight ... and site to see. We used to go to the Ring o' Bells many years ago and I remember the 'outdoor' where you could take empty 'pop' bottles back and get money for them. There was a lounge where there were two enormous bells, made of papier mache probably, that hung from the ceiling. As a child, whenever we went there I always thought how awful it would be if they fell on someone ... especially if they were mid-drink! Also, does anyone remember the New Inns at the Swan? There were what seemed like gardens the size of the Botanical Gardens at the back, with trees all around the edge. Great hide and seek places. The old pubs were the best in my opinion ... you could chat to people without blaring music being played .... rant over. In fact, I am a great supporter of live music (and all sorts) but just in the right place! Have a good day everyone. JJ

Good morning JJ I remember the Ring O Bells, I was sitting in the lounge one evening on a bench seat against the wall. there was a quite large heavy picture on the wall behind me, at least it was until it jumped of the wall and dollied me on the back of the head. It had been there so long the cord had rotted. At least the picture wasn't broken and everyone had a good laugh. Then they had to check the other pictures just to be safe. SB

hi JJ what a sad sight indeed but one all too common these days... our pubs once the back bone of community spirit are fast disapearing....it would be nice to see a pic of the ring o bells in its hey day...i will see if i can find one for you or maybe phil might have one...
