A friend of our's about 3 years ago done something similiar ,went to wellington station stood on the edge of the platform ,as the train came in just jumped in front of it .She had lost her husband to lung cancer ,and could not cope on her own ,according to a note found in her home.

That's clearly sad.
What is worse is making the train driver into a killer.
No blame attached, of course, but the psychological effect on a driver can be devestating.
It is an incredibly selfish act and I have no sympathy with the thoughtless suicidal.

Absolutely correct Volty. Even worse jumping off a motorway bridge.. That could kill or injure many.

i think on this subject i have to say there but for the grace of god go i..... as my cousin who has been a phychiatrist for many years will say...the mind is a very complex tool and could snap at any time to any one of us and more times than not we or our close ones dont see it creeping up.. it could happen to our wifes...hubbys..sons daughters..brothers..sisters ..friends etc...i think we just have to hope that we never have to witness a suicide and instead of condeming these (as some may say) inconvienient acts show a little pity for those who feel its the only way out and it is after all the easiest thing in the world to be cynical and judgemental about things we dont understand ..i myself missed a motorway jumper by no more than 15 mins last year..what drove him to it?? who knows...

Some years ago I used often to see someone in a local pub who had been a train driver. Rather introspective and drank a lot . Some years before someone jumped in front of his train . He had counselling and everything, but could never go back to driving a train, a job he had quite liked.
