Not living in Brum there are few eating places there that I have visited recently (a certain two pubs excepted). However, Cafe Zest (that is the fancy one in Rackham's isn't it) is one I did take my mother in before last christmas when I went to the German market, so it would have been about that time !!.

evening all, to be honest each time i come home i find the quality of the food is good in general, I am supprised that the service is not, in fact not just food places but service overall, ive even got to the point where I walk up to staff and ask them if they would consider serving me or should I go somewhere else. sorry back to the thread, last visit I ate at a great chinese resturant in the complex near when the canal boats are, also as a previous mention the red lion I think close to the big lakes behind Shirley. The Drawbridge at Shirley also good food. So as you know I travel a lot and honestly very few of the places I visited in the UK had poor food, none I would term bad, poor i mean, average quality or bad presentation eg cold. I dont think. There is a nice place on the Stratford road after you cross the motorway heading awy from Brum in a little village. I really should write them down. I dont think Bham has anything to worry about.

TCA, it's good to hear how our local food can compare but the thing about this list is that the food isn't under scrutiny, it's the premises it is cooked and served in.
I'll bet even in some of the zero rated establishments the front of house is OK but the kitchens, cupboards and wash-ups are filthy.

hey volty - yep your right, I have eaten in some pretty weird places like on a small island off the Mekin delta - had fish, it's not what you consider a clean river, but it tasted ok and didn't get sick, I'm sure we would not eat in a lot of places if we went through the kitchen first. OZ food rules are pretty strict but every now and again some real horrors are uncovered, sad but it mostly our asian restaurants that seem to be the worst culprits, sad I love asian food

There was a series on TV here a while back that followed food inspectors around an Australian city, I think it was Melbourne.
They spent a lot of time revisiting Asian outlets.

I think we all have to appreciate that a great deal of trust is given to the people that feed us. We all expect the staff to be honestly clean. Unfortunately we really know that some are not going to be. It isn't a good idea therefore to upset the staff before your food is delivered to your table.
